Do Your Armpits Need A Detox?

When you hear the word detox you likely think of someone drinking a green juice in order to cleanse out their system but have you ever thought about detoxing your armpits? I know this sounds odd but stick with us.

An armpit detox can draw out all of the harmful toxins that have been built upon the skin from using commercial deodorants for years.

Benefits of an armpit detox:

-reduces odor

-decreases your risk of cancer

-boost your immune system

We recommend making your own deodorant at home so that you know all of the ingredients that you are putting on your skin. To learn more about why you should make your own deodorant – check out our blog post here.

Here are reasons that you should consider doing an armpit detox:

You have build-up in your armpits
If you have been using commercial deodorants it is likely that your armpits need a detox. Harmful ingredients like aluminum, clog pores and stop you from sweating. A detox will pull those chemicals out of your skin.

You are switching to an all natural deodorant
It is common to experience a rash or excessive sweating when transitioning to a cleaner deodorant. Toxic deodorants actually change the bacterial microbiomes in your armpit, which causes an overproduction of bad bacteria. It can actually make your odor worse when you stop using them but don’t worry this detox will change that!

If you have enlarged lymph nodes or you get sick very often.
Some signs of enlarged lymph nodes are lumps on your neck or in your armpit. This is a sign that your lymphatic system is struggling process the chemicals and isn’t able to keep these ingredients out of your system. This struggle results in a weak immune system. A quick detox and an easy switch to a natural deodorant can fix this.

Here is what you’re going to need:
1 tablespoon of La Lune Naturals Indian Healing Clay
1 teaspoon of raw apple cider vinegar
1-2 tablespoons of filtered water
Ceramic bowl
Wooden spoon [using metal to mix will activate the clay before it goes on your skin]

How to detox:
Mix the bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar
Add a teaspoon or two of filtered water until it becomes a paste-like consistency
Spread a thin layer of the product on each armpit
Let it sit for 15-20 minutes [shorten time to 10 minutes if you have sensitive skin]
Wash off with a washcloth or in the shower

Other ways to promote your body’s detox process:
Dry brush to improve lymph and blood circulation. To learn more, check out our article about dry brushing here.
Eat a balanced diet: vegetables, healthy fats, quality protein
Drink lots of water
Avoid foods that will cause you to sweat more [ex. Garlic, caffeine, alcohol]
