EASY SUNSCREEN RECIPE

Here’s what you’ll need:
– 2 oz Zinc Oxide Powder
– 8 oz of your favorite lotion
– Medium bowl
– Hand held blender for mixing

Step 1: Mix 8 oz of lotion and 2 oz of Zinc Oxide Powder into a medium bowl. Once you have thoroughly mixed the lotion and powder with a spoon, use a hand mixer to continue blending for 3-5 minutes. This will ensure that you mix the zinc oxide powder evenly throughout the sunscreen.

Most mainstream sunscreens contain toxic, cancer causing chemicals that are absorbed into the skin. Zinc Oxide however is a non-tox alternative. Our Zinc Oxide, is non-nano with a mesh of 325nm, which means it’s sits on the skin and is not absorbed into the skin.

Step 2: Once the sunscreen is mixed to the desired consistency, apply the mask to face and body. Please note this sunscreen lotion will need to be re-applied ever 60-90 minutes, or more depending on how much you sweat. You’ll also want to store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. We recommend using the sunscreen within 6 months.

Sunscreen SPF Guide

Different amounts of zinc oxide are needed depending on what SPF you would like your lotion to be. Once you have chosen the SPF a little math is involved. The zinc oxide must be a certain percentage of the weight of your ingredients (before adding the zinc oxide). For this reason, it’s easiest to use a kitchen scale when making your sunscreen. For example, if you have 2 ounces of lotion and you’d like to make SPF 10 sunscreen, according to the values below you will need to add .2 ounces of zinc oxide to the lotion. Use the zinc oxide recommendations below.

For SPF 2-5: Use 5% zinc oxide

For SPF 6-11: Use 10% zinc oxide

For SPF 12-19: Use 15% zinc oxide

For SPF >20: Use 20% zinc oxide
